In this day and age of ever-evolving relationships, Gen Z keeps creating new ways to describe whatever non-committal dating, commitment, dating with the pretense of being non-committal up with something that is also a commitment, fling, and still more are all home to. One such term that has been gaining in popularity is “micromancing,” a word that highlights the importance of small, deliberate gestures over grand romantic gestures.



Micromancing is derived from the words “micro” and “romancing,” which describes the act of showing affection through small, everyday gestures as opposed to big ones. While micromancing is about regular, small actions that can create connection and intimacy between 2 people. And since digital communication is how we spend most of our time, micromancing is the sustainable and authentic way to build relationships.


Micromancing has many varieties that all emphasize the need for thoughtfulness and attentiveness in a relationship:

A text or two that shows one has genuine interest in their partner's day or well being.

Posting memes, articles, or videos related to shared interests or inside jokes that fosters a feeling of belonging.
