Afternoon time is very auspicious to do Ganesha Puja.

Ganesh Chaturthi sthapana muhurat 2026 varies depending on location. For instance, the most favorable sthapana muhurat in the case of New Delhi ranges from 11:02 AM to 1:31 PM. On the other hand, the same in Mumbai will range from 11:20 AM to 1:48 PM and in Pune, from 11:16 AM to 1:44 PM. For Kolkata, sthapana muhurat ranges from 10:18 AM to 12:46 PM.

Whereas most of the other Hindu festivals have rituals that start early in the morning, the puja rituals of Ganesh Chaturthi are traditionally performed during the afternoon time. As per the Hindu tradition, the birth of Lord Ganesha occurred during the Madhyahna time. This is why the devotees choose to do the sthapana and puja of Ganesh idol during the afternoon muhurat time.

Before the good time starts, clean up the place where the puja will be done and put a wooden chowki there. Then, cover that with a fresh red or yellow cloth and get it ready for the idol. According to the traditional way, the followers can create a swastika and put some akshat in the center. Face either east or north while getting ready for the puja. It is useful to have everything prepared beforehand since after starting the muhurat, all attention should go to Lord Ganesha.
