The India's Got Latent 2 host Samay Raina has made news again on social media for the latest episode where the participant from Bihar, teacher Sakshi Jha, called herself a ‘man-hater’ during her comedy routine. The show has edgy jokes and viral moments, but this performance had many viewers who were split on the act and some women and self-identified feminists who reeled at the “misunderstanding of feminism” they thought the act was. Hosted by Samay Raina, the episode had the judges Raghu Ram, Tanmay Bhat, Vishal Dadlani and Yashraj.

What Did Sakshi Jha Saying?

In her performance, Sakshi Jha introduced herself as a "man-hater". She joked about her love of hurting the men's egos and even responded with "chee" (ew) when she spoke about men. Samay Raina, asking her who hurt her, got the answer: "Men.

She later went on to say she didn't like her grandfather, grandfather nor her brother. One incident that was noted was her comment that she wanted to "beat her husband after he got her liquor on. When she was asked to clarify, she said “Oh it's really true.”

The Husband's Comment That Caused Controversy

Sakshi had declared that she would only marry a "good man," one is a "joru ka gulam" (a husband who blindly follows his wife). The contestant then remarked that she was trying to marry someone she intended to mistreat, and Samay Raina remarked on the irony of wanting to marry somebody one intended to mistreat. Then Samay Raina remarked, “You want to marry someone you planned to mistreat him/her, but you belong to Gen Z and want to do something different.”

Judge Raghu Ram, in a touching end of her performance remark, "Due to you, people will love men a lot more.

This Is Not Feminism" says all the internet.

The video clip of the episode soon went viral on social media platforms gaining critical comments from various users. Curiously, many of the criticisms were from feminist women.

A lot of people identified that the feminist thing isn't about hating males, it's about equality. Many had said that Sakshi's jokes were reinforcing common misconceptions about the movement, instead of challenging stereotypes.

One response was “second hand embarrassment” and another was “misandry is NOT feminism”. Others loved the act and thought that it was a reflection of the audience's reaction.

The Importance of the Discussion

The incident has again highlighted a distinction between a feminist and misandrist.

The feminist movement is usually seen as a movement towards gender equality in the context of securing equal rights, opportunities, and dignity for women by challenging discriminatory systems and practices. It isn't hateful toward men . For a long time, experts and activists have been stressing that the aim of Feminism is equality, and not eliminating discrimination.

With the ongoing discussions about gender, it is even more crucial that terms be accurately represented by public individuals and the viral content.
