MG Hector Tomahawk: Why This New SUV Is Turning Heads

A new three-row SUV has entered India's market, and its ₹13.99 lakh starting price is already grabbing attention. But there is an important detail behind that headline price. The MG Hector Tomahawk EV starts at ₹13.99 lakh under MG's Battery-as-a-Service, or BaaS, plan. The battery rental is charged separately at ₹4.90 per kilometre. And the price is only one part of the story. The new SUV brings a claimed 517km range, seven-seat practicality, a 15.6-inch touchscreen, Level 2 ADAS and V2H technology, making it one of the more feature-heavy launches in its segment





The most attention-grabbing number is ₹13.99 lakh, but this is the BaaS price, not the outright purchase price. Under this model, the battery is separated from the vehicle purchase and rented at ₹4.90 per kilometre. The outright price of the Hector Tomahawk EV starts at ₹19.49 lakh and rises to ₹23.49 lakh, ex-showroom. MG says these are introductory prices applicable to limited units. Bookings are open, with EV deliveries scheduled to begin in September 2026.



Range anxiety could be one of the biggest questions for family EV buyers, and MG is addressing it with a 69.2kWh LFP battery pack. The electric motor produces 204hp and 310Nm, while MG claims a 517km MIDC range. The SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in a claimed 8.2 seconds. It also supports 90kW DC fast charging, with MG claiming around 35 minutes for a 30 to 80 per cent charge using a compatible charger.

Inside, MG has focused heavily on technology and family comfort. The Hector Tomahawk is available in five-seat and seven-seat configurations, with the five-seat EV offered in the top Essence trim. Key features include a 15.6-inch touchscreen, 8.8-inch digital instrument display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof and a 10-speaker Infinity audio system. The SUV also offers 256-colour ambient lighting and several cabin modes, including Nap, Camp, Energise, Pro Pet, Valet and Quiet.

One of the most interesting technologies is V2H, or Vehicle-to-Home. MG claims the Hector Tomahawk EV is the first car in India to offer this capability. The SUV also supports bidirectional functions such as V2L, allowing the vehicle's battery to power external electrical equipment. In simple terms, the car is not only designed to consume electricity. Its stored energy can also become useful outside the vehicle. For buyers interested in new-age EV technology, this could be one of the Tomahawk's most distinctive features.

The technology is not limited to entertainment. The Hector Tomahawk gets a broad safety package that includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, traction control, hill-hold control and an electronic parking brake. It also gets Level 2 ADAS, while the 360-degree camera adds additional visibility while parking and manoeuvring. MG has also included features such as transparent chassis and wheel-view functionality. These additions are particularly relevant for a large family SUV that may regularly be driven in busy urban areas and tight parking spaces.

For buyers who are not ready to switch completely to an EV, MG has introduced a plug-in hybrid version. It combines a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 20.5kWh battery and a dedicated hybrid transmission. MG claims an EV-only range of 115km and a combined range of up to 1,100km. The PHEV is offered only as a seven-seater in two variants, Exclusive and Essence. Prices start at ₹25.69 lakh for outright purchase, ex-showroom, while the BaaS price starts at ₹21.79 lakh.

The right version depends on how you drive. The EV makes more sense for buyers with convenient charging access who want zero-tailpipe-emission driving and a claimed 517km range. The PHEV could appeal to families who want electric-only driving for shorter trips but still want the flexibility of a petrol engine for longer journeys. The BaaS option also lowers the initial EV purchase price, although buyers need to account for the separate per-kilometre battery rental. With three EV trims and two PHEV trims, the choice is broader than the headline price suggests.

The MG Hector Tomahawk arrives with an unusual proposition: one SUV, two electrified powertrain choices and two ways to approach EV ownership.
