New Baleno Launched at Rs 6.10 Lakh: What Changed?

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has received its 2026 facelift, but this is not simply a cosmetic update. Priced from Rs 6.10 lakh, ex-showroom, the refreshed hatchback gets subtle exterior changes, new features and, most importantly, a new Z-series petrol engine. While the design remains familiar, the changes underneath could make this update more important than it first appears. For buyers considering a premium hatchback, the new Baleno brings several details worth knowing before making a decision.




Maruti Suzuki has launched the 2026 Baleno with an introductory starting price of Rs 6.10 lakh, ex-showroom, for the Sigma Petrol MT variant. This makes the new model Rs 20,000 more expensive than the outgoing version. Prices for higher variants are yet to be announced. Bookings are already underway for Rs 11,000. For buyers, the key question is whether the additional price is justified by the changes. Since the base variant receives the new powertrain while several prices remain undisclosed, customers may want to wait for the complete variant-wise pricing before choosing their preferred version.



Maruti has not radically changed the Baleno’s design, and that may actually work in its favour. The facelift continues with its large chrome grille, swept-back LED headlamps and familiar body shape, while the bumper receives sharper detailing. The side profile remains largely unchanged with 16-inch alloy wheels, chrome door handles and LED indicators on the ORVMs. Small additions include a chrome insert on the front fender and a shark-fin antenna. At the rear, the bumper has been reprofiled, while the slim C-shaped LED taillamps continue to give the hatchback its distinctive appearance.


The 2026 Baleno is available in seven exterior colour options, giving buyers more room to personalise the car. The biggest addition is Enigmatic Teal, a new shade that gives the familiar hatchback a fresher visual identity. Other options include Nexa Blue, Grandeur Grey, Arctic White, Splendid Silver, Opulent Red and Bluish Black. The overall design remains conservative rather than dramatic, but the new colour can help the facelift stand apart from older versions on the road. For buyers who want a premium-looking hatchback without an aggressive design, the updated colour palette keeps the Baleno’s understated character intact.

Inside, Maruti has retained the Baleno’s familiar curved dashboard, silver trim and free-standing touchscreen layout. Instead of completely redesigning the cabin, the company has focused on useful feature additions. The 2026 model gets a wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats and a Clarion sound system. Existing equipment includes a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, head-up display, automatic climate control, cruise control and an auto-dimming IRVM. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also carried forward. The spacious rear seat continues to make the Baleno a practical choice for families looking for everyday comfort.

The most important change in the 2026 Baleno is not visible from outside. Maruti has replaced the older K-series petrol engine with its newer 1.2-litre naturally aspirated Z-series engine, which was introduced in the Swift in 2024. The petrol version produces 83 PS and 112 Nm, while the CNG version produces 70 PS and 102 Nm. Petrol buyers can choose between a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT, while the CNG version gets a 5-speed manual. This new powertrain gives the facelift a more meaningful mechanical update than its styling suggests.

For buyers who cover long distances, the factory-fitted CNG option could be one of the most important reasons to consider the new Baleno. Maruti claims an ARAI-rated efficiency of 33.61 km/kg for the CNG version. The petrol model is claimed to deliver 23.80 kmpl with the manual transmission and 24.77 kmpl with the AMT. These figures make the Baleno particularly interesting for customers who want a premium hatchback while keeping running costs under control. However, real-world efficiency can vary depending on traffic, driving habits, road conditions and vehicle load.

The 2026 Baleno does not try to reinvent itself, but that is not necessarily a weakness. Its familiar design, practical cabin, new features, CNG option and Z-series engine make the facelift a more substantial update than its exterior suggests. The starting price of Rs 6.10 lakh is slightly higher, while prices of the upper variants are still awaited. Buyers should therefore compare the final variant-wise pricing and equipment before booking. For someone seeking a practical premium hatchback with strong efficiency, everyday features and a familiar ownership proposition, the new Baleno remains a car worth watching closely.
