New Toyota Fortuner Is Coming in India : The Biggest Upgrade Yet?

The best-loved Toyota SUV in India has always been the Fortuner, the company is all set to launch an all-new one. After the Hilux has seen the light of day with just minor changes, all eyes are on Toyota's other SUV model to see if it also follows suit with the same conservative approach or takes a bold step and launches an all-new one. With the critical position held by Fortuner in Toyota's India range, the initial rumors suggest that Toyota is not going to be conservative about this one.




With both vehicles having much common DNA in terms of their frame structure, off-road components, and similar feature sets, there are reasons enough for us to assume that the new Fortuner should take quite a few styling cues from its sister truck model. This can include an upgraded honeycomb grille, redesigned head and taillights, bumpers, and wheel covers. But, the SUV will still retain most of its styling language in terms of silhouette and measurements, which means that we will see a major facelift here. There is an expectation that Toyota will introduce the updated ladder-frame platform from the Hilux and the Land Cruiser Prado here to improve rigidity and driving experience.




In contrast to the Hilux, which is an India-specific niche offering for Toyota, the Fortuner is a volume car, so the company will definitely not be stingy with the specifications on this front. One can look forward to a revamped dashboard, replacement of hydraulic power steering by electronic power steering, as well as the biggest change being two 12.3-inch screens replacing
the existing 8-inch infotainment screen and the smaller instrument console. In terms of cabin specification changes, one can expect a full digital screen for the driver complemented by a larger touchscreen for wireless connectivity to smartphones.

It’s almost certain that there will be a factory fitted 360-degree camera system, while ventilated seats, which are restricted to the 4x4 variant for now, may finally find their way to other variants. There have been reports that it will be the Toyota Safety Sense system with ACC, LKA, BSM, and AEB.

The powertrains will remain largely untouched at first, with the conventional 2.8-liter diesel and 2.7-liter gasoline engines being used. However, further down the line, a mild-hybrid variant of the diesel engine may be introduced to boost efficiency.

No date has been set as yet by Toyota officially, but the latest estimates from the automobile industry put the launch of this car in India somewhere in the period of late 2026 to early 2027, after it has debuted globally around the same period. Considering the extra features that come along with the new model, the cost of this vehicle is likely to increase a little compared to its current range of ₹41.63 lakh to ₹62.47 lakh (ONR Mumbai) by about ₹80,000 to ₹1.5 lakh.

The new-gen Toyota Fortuner seems more like a substantial upgrade instead of just a minor facelift, it might well deliver what it promises in reality. Copying design elements from Hilux but including a lot of significant improvements such as dual 12.3-inch screens, ADAS, 360-degree camera system, and improved availability of options, it will now finally compete with such vehicles as MG Gloster in interior technology while maintaining its characteristic ruggedness and ladder frame that its loyal customers appreciate. With a moderate price increase and a release date set in late 2026 or early 2027, Toyota might be trying to strike a balance between improvement and affordability.
