Canon R8 Mark II: 7 Features You Should Know

Canon has finally brought the EOS R8 Mark II to India, and this time the company has addressed one of the biggest gaps in the original R8. The new full-frame mirrorless camera comes with 5-axis in-body image stabilisation, 40fps electronic burst shooting, improved autofocus and 4K video recording. Priced at ₹1,78,995 for the body, the R8 Mark II is aimed at photographers, hybrid creators and users looking for a compact full-frame camera.




The biggest change over the original EOS R8 is the addition of 5-axis in-body image stabilisation. Canon says its coordinated stabilisation system can provide up to 7.5 stops of correction at the centre and up to 7 stops at the edges when used with compatible stabilised RF lenses. This can be especially useful for handheld photography in low-light situations or when shooting without a tripod. Canon also positions the R8 Mark II as its lightest EOS camera with IBIS, weighing around 546g with the battery and memory card.






Fast-moving subjects can disappear between two shutter presses, which is why burst speed matters. The EOS R8 Mark II can shoot at up to 40 frames per second using its electronic shutter. Canon has also added Pre-Continuous Shooting, which can record up to 20 frames before the shutter is fully pressed. For sports, wildlife, children or unpredictable moments, this gives photographers more chances to capture the exact frame they want.

Canon has not increased the resolution this time. The EOS R8 Mark II uses a 24.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor paired with the DIGIC X processor. The focus system is designed to cover the full image area, giving users more flexibility when composing subjects away from the centre.

The EOS R8 Mark II is also built for creators who switch between photography and video. It can record uncropped 6K-oversampled 4K video at up to 60fps, while Full HD recording can reach 180fps for slow-motion footage. Canon Log 3 and Custom LUT support give users more flexibility during post-production. The camera also supports wired and wireless livestreaming, while UVC and UAC support can enable compatible video calls and livestreaming setups.

In India, the Canon EOS R8 Mark II body costs ₹1,78,995 including taxes. Canon has also introduced the Extension Grip EG-E2 at ₹9,995 and the Tripod Grip HG-1000TBR at ₹11,495. The camera measures approximately 131.4 x 90.0 x 79.7mm and weighs around 546g with its battery and memory card. That combination of full-frame imaging, IBIS and relatively low weight makes portability one of the camera's key selling points.

The EOS R8 Mark II is not about simply increasing resolution. Its appeal comes from how several practical upgrades work together.
